‘Precarious straits ~ survival on Southend’s new coast, Southend-under-Sea’ was a collaborative project from TOMA (The Other MA) and TOW (The Old Waterworks) consisting of a group exhibition, a series of events, workshops, a postal care package, new writing and poster commissions responding to the precarious times we inevitably face.

Collaborative working between TOMA & TOW and helped develop areas of shared work

Raised artist profiles, especially with non-local, national audiences associated with Estuary Festival

Led to creation of a co-authored article and potential future collaborations

Strengthened existing relationships with local artists and brought new national artists to Southend-on-Sea

Promoted resource sharing and collaborating over competing amongst cultural practitioners

Increased visibility for TOMA & TOW and Southend-on-Sea cultural scene more generally
